The Power of Feather Touch: Therapeutic Massage Therapy for Medical Conditions

Massage therapy for medical conditions can be adjusted to give you the most benefit.  Massage therapy can help treat a variety of medical conditions, including:

  • Chronic illnesses: Massage can help with pain and anxiety for people with chronic illnesses like cancer.

  • Stress-related tension: Massage can help with stress-related tension.

  • Sleep disorders: Massage can help with sleep disorders.

  • High blood pressure: Massage can help with high blood pressure.

  • Diabetes: Massage can help with diabetes.

  • Low back pain: Massage can help with low back pain.

  • Depression: Massage can help with depression.

In fact, it is not just about alleviating your condition but also being present and massaging you with kindness and compassion.  Therapeutic Massage Therapy is non-invasive, medication-free, and gentle. It involves a combination of rhythmic stroking, gentle soothing strokes, and it may also include the application of light pressure on specific points.  Therapeutic massage can reduce stress, decrease pain and increase feeling of calmness and well-being.

Relax and rest with a personalised 30 minute aromatherapy massage at Solely Holistic. This specialized massage therapy is tailored specifically to the needs of you.  So this could be your upper body: back, shoulders, neck, arms, scalp or it could be your lower body: legs and feet.  I specifically keep the treatment short to prevent fatigue.  I use a wide comfortable massage table with extra cushions and blankets in case you feel the cold. There is no rush before or after the treatment and your time is respected and supportive.

I specifically use Songbird ‘Cooling and Soothing’ Balm.  It has arnica which has been used for medicinal purposes since the 1500's. When applied to the skin it soothes muscle pain, joint pain and reduces inflammation.  It also contains Hypericum (St. John's Wort).  Recent research suggests the effectiveness of this herb (Medical Attributes of St. John’s Wort) in treating other ailments, including cancer, inflammation-related disorders, and bacterial and viral diseases, and as an antioxidant and neuroprotective agent.

Another ingredient in this balm is Chamomile which is one of the most ancient medicinal herbs known to mankind (Chamomile: A herbal medicine of the past with bright future). Chamomile lotions are commonly used for many human ailments such as inflammation, muscle spasms, insomnia, rheumatic pain, neuralgia and sciatica. Similar to Chamomile is the herb Yarrow which gives the balm its blue colour. Yarrow is a very mild sedative to calm nerves and reduce anxiety. It also treats nightmares, insomnia and other sleep problems. Lastly, the other ingredient is Menthol which provides anti-inflammatory properties and a cooling sensation for hot, aching joints.

There is growing evidence that massage has many benefits, physical, mental, and emotional.

  • Reducing Chronic Pain

Chronic pain can be debilitating, affecting every aspect of your life and making even simple tasks seem daunting. Massage therapy has been found to be highly effective in treating chronic pain by targeting the source of discomfort and promoting relaxation. Through the use of various techniques, such as deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy, massage therapists can help relieve muscle tension, release knots, and increase blood flow to affected areas. This helps alleviate pain, promotes healing, and reduces inflammation.

  • Addressing Insomnia

Massage therapy has also been found to improve sleep quality, which can profoundly impact overall well-being. Many individuals struggle with insomnia or other sleep disorders, which can greatly affect their daily lives and productivity. Regular sessions with a therapist can help promote relaxation and decrease stress, allowing individuals to fall asleep more easily and stay asleep throughout the night. It has been found to increase the production of delta waves in the brain, which are associated with deep sleep and relaxation. By promoting deep sleep, massage therapy can help individuals feel more refreshed and rejuvenated upon waking, leading to increased energy levels and improved cognitive function throughout the day.

  • Reducing Pain and Inflammation from Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a persistent and painful disease that affects the joints, resulting in inflammation, swelling, and discomfort. This condition can significantly impact an individual's quality of life, limiting their mobility and causing chronic pain. However, various treatment approaches are available, and one of the effective methods for managing the symptoms of arthritis is through massage therapy. Massage can offer numerous benefits for individuals suffering from this condition. It can help increase blood circulation to the affected areas, thus alleviating aches and pains.

Additionally, the gentle manipulation of the muscles and tissues during a massage session can promote relaxation and minimize stress, which can further contribute to pain relief. Regular massage sessions can also improve flexibility and range of motion in the affected joints, allowing individuals with osteoarthritis to engage in daily activities with greater ease and less pain. Overall, massage therapy can be a valuable complementary treatment option for those seeking relief from the challenges posed by arthritis.

  • Poor blood circulation

Perhaps the biggest benefit of massage therapy is its ability to improve blood circulation in the body as it helps with many daily activities. Increasing a person’s circulation is vital in the later years, as poor circulation, unfortunately, becomes more and more common during this time of life. However, better circulation can be achieved through massage therapy as it helps the circulation of blood in the body’s limbs.

  • Tight muscles

It’s not surprising to be less mobile and less active as we get older. The human body stops functioning as before and we tend to stay home more often and exercise less. As a result, the muscles harden and become tenser, making it even more difficult to move around. What a massage can do is help soften the muscles and tissues.

  • Managing Fibromyalgia

Living with Fibromyalgia can be a daily struggle. From the outside, it may seem like individuals with this chronic condition lead normal lives, but beneath their seemingly healthy appearance, there often lies a constant battle against pain, fatigue, and various other symptoms that affect their physical and mental well-being. It is a complex disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tender points throughout the body. Sleep disturbances, mood swings, and cognitive issues, such as memory problems and difficulty concentrating, often accompany it. These symptoms can vary in intensity and duration, making it challenging for individuals with fibromyalgia to manage their daily activities.

Massage therapy can be a valuable tool in managing fibromyalgia symptoms. The gentle touch of a massage therapist can provide relief from muscle pain and tension, helping individuals with this condition experience a reduction in their overall pain. Massage therapy has been shown to increase blood flow and reduce inflammation, which can help alleviate pain and improve joint mobility. Additionally, massage promotes the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, which can boost mood and overall well-being.

Taken from Songbird Reviews for 'Cooling and Soothing Balm'

I have used the soothing balm on a client with RA and they have commented that they have never felt this good and from a therapist's point of view it has achieved great results. In addition to the warming, soothing effect of reducing oedema and pain, the scent is well received by my clients and seems to relax them. Whenever I have used this balm I have had great results both psychologically and physically. My clients appreciate that the product is completely natural and have purchased the product to use themselves.
